Santorini is stunning... how can you explain it? i can't. You must go! We found also the perfect bookstore there...started by travellers-- two of whom fell in love...we somehow stumbled upon their engagement party where we were offered cake and wine from a box. the most magical evening...
In Rhodes we rented a car for three days... which brought its special moments--ordering wine from a bearded lady who scoops it from a plastic barrel...and yes it tastes like cough syrup, but somehow feels good. and it's not so special moments--getting over ambitious on a beach and discovering your wheels are spinning and the car is no longer moving and find all the windsurfers laughing at you from afar as a tractor frees your tiny kia picanto.
We arrived in Turkey with a destination, not so sure of the route. But fearlessly held out our Lonely Planet and pointed to our town and everyone shuffled us along to the right buses. Arrived in the beautiful lake town, Egirdir where we drank tea high up in a deserted village and spent a day swimming in a canyon too beautiful to describe--fresh trout for lunch...pink flowers and crystal clear water...some version of heaven...
and now we find ourselves in the town of goreme...surrounded by the strangest of rock formations. Other worldly. Spent yesterday exploring underground cities where hittites and byzantines used to hide in when their enemies were near. Some of them are 8 stories underground! The best discovery so far is a little cave where they let you watch movies...and for a girl --that's me-- who's got a bit of...not monezuma's...what would it be? hittite? ottoman? attaturk's? well someone is taking revenge on my stomach, a cave for movies is just perfect.
A Free Mouse-- is actually the email address of a guy I met on my first day in Guatemala. I have never emailed him and I can't even remember his name. But that's exactly how I feel these days--like a free mouse...just a little guy scurrying around, a little confused, but generally pretty damn happy. So maybe I'm a copy cat. But maybe I'm just another free mouse.
